Seven William Floyd High School student-musicians have been recognized by the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) for musical excellence with three earning spots and four named as alternates to this year’s Winter Conference scheduled for December 1-4, 2016 in Rochester, NY. Students will have an opportunity to represent their district and perform with their peers and fellow top musicians from across New York State.
The three All-State student-musicians are Massimo Saputo, trombone/symphonic band; Kaitlyn Sottung, alto/mixed chorus; and Iliana Barcenas, viola/orchestra. The four All-State alternates are Ryan Cotto, tenor/trombone; Ryan Siegel, saxophone; Scott Sottung, tenor; and Justin Wheeler, bass.
Every spring, thousands of high school students from across New York State compete for a limited number of positions available in the eight NYSSMA All-State ensembles: vocal jazz, instrumental ensemble, wind ensemble, string orchestra, women’s chorus, mixed chorus, symphonic band and symphony orchestra. Congratulations to the students and their music teachers, Michael Cordaro, Barbara D’Orio and Christopher Shaughnessy!
