On Friday, April 15, 2016, the William Floyd School District, in collaboration with the William Floyd Alumni Association, will honor its next class of Distinguished Alumni for making a positive difference in society through their careers and in their lives. This year’s distinguished honorees hail from the fields of education, government, culinary arts and entertainment. The program, now in its eighth year, has previously recognized 34 individuals who have made great contributions to society in their chosen paths.
This year’s recipients include: Paul Casciano, education, Class of 1970; Monica Corona (née Sica); education, Class of 1981; Sam DeMarco aka Chef SammyD, renowned culinary artist and restaurateur, Class of 1983; Brookhaven Town Councilman Dan Panico, government and public service, Class of 1996; and Tara Fogarty, an Emmy-nominated producer for the Rachael Ray Show, Class of 1999. The honorees will visit William Floyd High School for an in-school portion where they will have an opportunity to interact with students whose course of study correlates to their occupation. Distinguished alumni will also visit the new Rita Rech Museum of William Floyd School District History and be treated to a fully-catered lunch by the culinary arts students under the direction of world champion ice carver, Rich Daly.
“This is one of the most special days of the year for the Alumni Association and for me personally,” said Jackie Eglevsky (née Intonato), President, William Floyd Alumni Association, and a 2014 Distinguished Alumna herself. “It’s an opportunity to connect the future with the past and inspire current students to achieve great things.”
“From education to public service, culinary arts and entertainment, this year’s honorees are truly a deserving class of individuals who have done outstanding things in their careers,” said Kevin M. Coster, Superintendent of Schools, William Floyd School District. “It is an honor to have them come back and share their personal stories of hard work and determination on the path to success.”
This year’s class joins the ranks of 34 previous award recipients from all aspects of society including, business, government, medicine, the sciences, entertainment, literature, theater arts, athletics, music, culinary arts, emergency services, philanthropy, education, public and community service and more. Some of the careers of William Floyd Distinguished alumni include a United States Congressman, an NCAA basketball coach, Hollywood filmmakers, educators, research scientists, a wildlife expert, an opera singer, an author, restaurateurs and much more. The Distinguished Alumni Dinner is scheduled for Friday, April 15, 2016 at Lombardi’s on the Bay in Patchogue, NY. Tickets cost $60 per person ($30 for children ages five through 12/under five is free) with proceeds benefiting the William Floyd Alumni Association and supporting the Distinguished Alumni Award Program.
