The students of the William Floyd School District have worked incredibly hard, along with their teachers, to make outstanding progress in the development of their reading. We are extremely proud of their accomplishments up to this point in the school year.
Looking forward, we would like our students’ growth to continue over the summer break. As a parent, you know that consistency is the key. You try to keep children on schedule for meal time, bath time and especially bed time. The same applies to their studies. Children, who continue to read, write and do math perform significantly better upon their return to school. Students, who do not study, fall several levels behind. To ensure that our students keep the progress they’ve earned, we have created a Virtual Summer School Program.
Students will be working on the computer with RAZ Kids. RAZ Kids has been proven to positively accelerate the learning growth of students. Your child has access to hundreds of eBooks using the school’s subscription to RAZ Kids, www.raz-kids.com. Students can read, listen to, and even self-record these books. Reading-comprehension quizzes along the way show the progress that your child is making.
Over the course of the summer, your child should read 2 complete levels of books if they are on reading level A – I and 1 complete level of books if they are reading on a level J or above. Your child’s teacher will provide you with your child’s reading level prior to the start of summer vacation. Students should complete their assignment between June 29th and August 30th.
If you do not have access to a computer or the internet, you can access RAZ Kids at the public library. In addition, the public library is offering a reading program throughout the summer which would be an additional support for your child. When school commences in the fall, every child who has participated in the Virtual Summer School Program will be recognized with a prize and will be represented in a group photograph which will be taken in their school library.
