The William Floyd Elementary School Math Olympiad team, under the direction of teachers Toni Amato and Val Wiemer, competed at the Math Olympiad Tournament at Stony Brook University and took home four awards including a third place award in each of the fourth- and fifth-grade team divisions, as well as two individual awards – a third and fifth place finish, respectively. They competed against 52 teams from 31 schools, 11 public school districts and two private schools.
Members of the fourth-grade team include Ty Carey, Dylan Coyle, Brayden Cruz, Eric DiGiacomo, and Jada Minter. Members of the fifth-grade team include Krista Cusimano, Ethan Cowan, Natalia Furchel, Ian Hua and Adam Schultzer. Dylan Coyle finished third overall in the fourth-grade individual round; and Brayden Cruz finished fifth overall in the fourth-grade individual round.
