The William Floyd School District, in collaboration with the William Floyd Alumni Association, is set to honor five individuals making up its seventh class of distinguished alumni for their great contributions to society in their chosen careers. This year’s class, hailing from the fields of business, education, engineering, marketing, and public service, will be honored on Friday, May 1, 2015, during Distinguished Alumni Day, an event complete with an in-school portion which provides an opportunity for alumni-student interaction followed by a celebratory dinner in the evening.
“We will be honoring another extraordinarily talented group of alumni,” said Dr. Paul Casciano, Class of 1970, Superintendent of Schools, William Floyd School District. “Their accomplishments make us all very proud that their journey began at William Floyd.”
The William Floyd Distinguished Alumni Class of 2015 includes: Christine Bensen, business/marketing, Class of 1986; Harold Deiters, a certified public accountant, Class of 1989; James Horkovich, an engineer and defense industry professional, Class of 1965; Mark Mensch, an educator in the William Floyd School District, Class of 1982; and Josephine Smith, an FDNY firefighter, Class of 1999. “This year’s recipients are not only being recognized for their accomplishments and contributions but also for being positive role models,” said Jacqueline Intonato Eglevsky, Class of 1964, President, William Floyd Alumni Association. “The honorees have inspired our students, as well as the William Floyd school community, to strive for excellence, because when they do, the opportunities open to them are limitless.”
This year’s class joins the ranks of 30 previous award recipients from all aspects of society including, business, government, medicine, the sciences, literature and the arts, athletics, music, law enforcement, education, public and community service and more. Some of the careers of William Floyd Distinguished alumni include a United States Congressman, an NCAA basketball coach, Hollywood filmmakers, educators, research scientists, a wildlife expert, an opera singer, an author, a chef and much more.
The Distinguished Alumni Dinner is scheduled for Friday, May 1, 2015 at 5 pm at West Lake Inn in Patchogue, NY. Tickets cost $50 per person with proceeds benefiting the William Floyd Alumni Association and supporting the Distinguished Alumni Award Program. Congratulatory journal ads are also available.
