Congratulations to William Floyd High School senior and cross country athlete Hasani Rathan for winning the State Championship in the High Jump event at the New York State Winter Track Championships held at Cornell University on March 7.
Rathan competed against 31 other student athletes from across New York State (both private and public schools) and earned the title with a 6’10” high jump. In the process, he set a William Floyd High School record and qualified for the New Balance Nationals Indoor events next weekend in New York City.
“Hasani has put in a tremendous amount of work and improved every time he has competed,” said Ed Noll, head coach of the boys winter track team. “He has always possessed natural jumping ability and putting in the extra work to improve the technical part of his jumping has allowed him to excel in the event. He has still not reached his full potential and looks to best the 7’ mark this upcoming weekend at Nationals,” he said. Coach Noll added that Rathan will be taking his talents to the college level and has begun the selection process. “He has made William Floyd very proud being crowned a state champion, and constantly showing good sportsmanship and the competitive spirit.”
