The William Floyd School District ESL (English as a Second Language) Department in partnership with the Mastics-Moriches-Shirley Community Library (MMSCL) recently held a successful ESL Family Night to educate families on the services offered by the ESL Department.
During the information session which was attended by approximately 50 people, teachers shared home reading strategies, provided an overview of the ESL services available and offered curriculum information in their parents’ native language. This was made possible by MMSCL translation services.
“We showed our families how to access the translation features on the William Floyd School District website so that they can have access to all information districtwide,” said Dr. Malasia Walker, Director of Special Education, William Floyd School District.
At the conclusion of the meeting, students received book bags, school supplies and mathematics flash cards in Spanish.
