Students at William Floyd Elementary School kicked off the new school year with a bang as they recently participated in the school’s 11th annual Museum Day, an event where students get a taste of some of Long Island’s local museums and cultural institutions and their offerings.
The extremely popular event, spearheaded by school principal Keith Fasciana and school librarian Margaret Finne, featured a wide array of exhibits from the Department of Environmental Conservation (skulls and live reptiles); the Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research and Preservation; Brookhaven National Laboratory; the Holtsville Ecology Center; I Fish NY; Cornell Cooperative Extension; Dolan DNA Learning Center; Parrish Art Museum; Fire Island Park Rangers; and the Suffolk County Police Department.
“Museum Day provides a memorable learning experience for our students,” said Mr. Fasciana. “It also shows them that learning can be fun.”
