Caitlyn Fioto, a William Floyd High School student in Michael Devenney’s 11th-grade English class, recently used persuasive writing to secure tickets to a New York Islanders game! Caitlyn and her classmates were participating in a letter-writing campaign titled, “The Power of Persuasion,” in which students write letters to famous and influential people who have impacted them personally, and use their writing skills to convince the recipient to send back a small token or something to cherish and motivate them as writers.

Victoria Hernandez, a sixth-grade general education and ENL science teacher at William Floyd Middle School, as well as a NYS Master Teacher, is currently a finalist in Teachers Federal Credit Union “Teacher Appreciation Week Contest!” Ms. Hernandez has the opportunity to win a grant up to $2,500 for her classroom, which will be used to build an interactive vertical garden using coding and technology ! Voting in this final round ends Friday, April 26.

Senior Student-Artists Honored at All-County & Scholarship Art Show

Four William Floyd High School seniors in Theresa Bianco’s art class were recently honored at the “All County & Senior Scholarship Art Show” sponsored by the Suffolk County Art Leaders Association (SCALA) in partnership with the Babylon Citizens Council on the Arts. For their efforts, the student-artists received certificates from Babylon Town Supervisor Rich Shaffer, as well as 17th District Suffolk County Legislator Tom Donnelly. The students and their families also enjoyed a special reception honoring their accomplishments.

Varsity Basketball Stars Named to Newsday All-Long Island Teams

Four William Floyd High School student-athletes were recently named All-Long Island by Newsday! Ka’Shya Hawkins and Jawuan Smith earned First Team accolades, and Kayla Gilmore and Joey McLaurin earned Second Team honors, respectively. All four student-athletes were instrumental in helping their teams win League I titles, make a deep playoff run and being ranked among the best teams in New York State!
